Canoe Instructors - UK & France
Share your passion for paddling with our young guests! Opportunities in the UK and France for the 2009 season - apply now!
Canoeing is at the heart of PGL and we have long recognised this sport as a great way to introduce children to the outdoors.
Whether you are teaching introductory sessions on calm UK waters, or if you are accompanying river descents down the beautiful Ardèche - this is a fantastic opportunity to put your paddle skills to the test.
For over 50 years, PGL Travel Ltd has provided residential activity holidays and educational courses for children. More than 250,000 young guests enjoy a PGL trip each year, and we're looking for energetic staff team members to make that happen.
You'll be leading introductory sessions, briefing guests on safety, organising games and making sure your group have a fun, safe time on the water.
At some of our smaller UK centres, you'll split your time between paddling sessions and leading land-based activities including climbing, ropes courses, quadbiking and archery. We offer a comprehensive pre-employment training course to give you the skills, knowledge and confidence you'll need for this.
As well as working with like-minded people, you will benefit from the training on offer. Every staff member is offered Apprenticeship programmes in Active Leisure and Learning to help you get qualified 'on the job'.
We're ideally looking for keen paddlers who already hold a minimum of their British Canoe Union (BCU) Trainee Level 2 Coach award, or the new UKCC Level 1 Coach award.
However - If you hold your BCU 3 star or the new UKCC 2 star award and want to take advantage of our free four-week BCU training and assessment course in the Ardèche, France, you must be available from early April and able to work the whole season.
If you're a keen paddler with no qualifications, you can look at becoming an Activity Instructor at one of our centres, where you can 'earn while you learn' and work towards your BCU awards, taking advantage of training offered during, at the end, or start of the season.
The UK centres are open from January to November; our centres in Southern France and Spain are open from April to early September.
Our centre locations means plenty of opportunity to paddle during your free time, either on flat or moving water in the UK to adrenalin-busting white water in the Ardèche.
Return transport from a UK port to our overseas centre is provided for staff with their employment package.
You need to possess the legal right to live and work in the UK to be considered for this position.
